MDP LLP seeks an experienced Staff Accountant who, under the supervision of our Partners, will provide dependable and customer-centric accounting and business support to our small business clients. Working from our Oakville location, the experienced Staff Accountant has ‘been there, done that’, and takes great pride in the customer service they provide for corporate accounting and general bookkeeping needs of our valued clients.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Using your experience, develop effective working relationships with clients, seek to understand their business environment, and respond effectively to client requests
• Recognize and anticipate client issues and risks, assess alternative solutions and take appropriate actions under the direction of a Manager and/or Partner
• Apply technical knowledge and research in formulating client and firm related recommendations
• Prepare personal (T1), corporate (T2) tax returns, and client year-ends
• Perform various analyses and prepare account reconciliations
• Prepare financial statements
• Perform accounting/bookkeeping services for clients
• Other related duties as assigned

Education and other requirements:

• Successful work experience in a similar position in a public accounting environment is required
• Post-secondary education in a relevant Accounting program is preferred
• Prior achievement of the CPA designation (currently in good standing) and/or equivalent is an asset
• Proficiency with an accounting program such as Caseware required
• Working knowledge and adaptability with various programs such as ACCPAC, Quick-books, Sage 50, Simply Accounting is required
• Strong financial accounting skills required, including tax returns, file preparations, account reconciliations, financial statements, bookkeeping, etc.
• Understanding of applicable payroll concepts preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task competing priorities
• Excellent communication skills, with previous experience in a customer service related position; strong interpersonal, relationship building skills and professionalism
• Strong commitment to continuous learning
• Reliable vehicle and good driving record required as this role will require limited local travel

Due to continued growth, MDP LLP seeks a Tax Specialist to work in our Oakville location.  Under the supervision of the Partners and Managers of the Firm, the Tax Specialist will play an integral role in assisting clients with their tax planning and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare complex personal, corporate, trust/estate and partnership tax returns.
  • Review personal, corporate, trust/estate and partnership tax returns.
  • Correspond with Canada Revenue Agency, including preparation and reviewing of Notice of Objection, submission under the Voluntary Disclosure Program, and taxpayer relief requests.
  • Assist partners and managers in the development of client tax strategies.
  • Conduct tax research and interpretation of relevant legislation.
  • Review legal documentation in connection with tax reorganization.
  • Prepare appropriate memorandum and letters in alignment with the core duties of the role.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Education and other requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in a similar Canadian tax-focused position in a public accounting environment is required.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant Accounting program is preferred; with achievement and good standing of the CPA (or CGA/CA) designation required.
  • Successful completion of some suitable taxation specific education program(s) is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Taxprep and Knotia required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task competing priorities.

MDP LLP seeks a Bookkeeper to work in our Oakville location.  Under the supervision of the Partners and Managers of the Firm, the Bookkeeper is responsible for providing bookkeeping and related services for our clients across the GTA.  If you have successful experience working directly with numerous clients on various bookkeeping engagements, we want to hear from you!

Depending on the needs of each client, you may be responsible for the following activities:

  • Prepare daily, monthly, and/or year-end financial statements and financial reports for clients; this includes data entry and journal entries in producing profit/loss statements, cash flow reports, payable and receivable reports, etc.
  • Meet with clients and assist in the set-up of their books, providing related training if/as required
  • Calculate and remit HST/GST and all other reporting requirements and related filings
  • Filing and reconciliation of T4’s, HST returns, WSIB, EHT, etc.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
  • Administer and process payroll using various software
  • AP and/or AR functions including data entry, invoice generation, report generation, collections, compensating contractors, etc.
  • Ad-hoc support calls on a daily basis
  • Other related tasks as required

 

Education and other Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a previous Bookkeeping role that services numerous clients simultaneously
  • College Diploma in Accounting or Bookkeeping or equivalent in education and/or experience required; Certified Bookkeeper (CB) Designation an asset
  • Some post-secondary education in payroll would be an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook required
  • Highly knowledgeable in various Accounting/Payroll software required, including Quickbooks, Sage 50, QBO and Xero, and other similar accounting tools
  • Technologically savvy in order to design new processes and workflows for clients, and to adapt to various software and apps
  • Drivers license and insurance must be in good standing, and having a reliable vehicle is essential
  • Highly attentive to details, a quick problem solver, able to easily detect errors
  • Able to build meaningful relationships with clients and team members
  • Strong command of the English language, including written and verbal skills

The Senior Staff Accountant, Assurance is a professional who, with the support of our Managers and Partners of the Firm, will prepare year end audit and review engagements and direct and train intermediate and junior staff in accordance with the Firm’s Quality Assurance Manual.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, execute and finalize audit and review engagements ensuring compliance with Canadian Auditing and Review standards.
  • Ensure financial statements and note disclosures are in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (including ASPE and IFRS).
  • Review work performed by junior and intermediate team members for larger assurance engagements.
  • Prepare corporate income tax returns. Collaborate with the tax department on client tax planning opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients including communication to arrange timing of year-end inventory counts, interim, and year-end fieldwork.
  • Provide effective leadership, mentorship and skills development that support the values of the organization.
  • Develop appropriate knowledge, skills and competence consistent with CPA professional development requirements.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Experience and other requirements:

  • CPA designation with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in audit and assurance required.
  • Related experience supporting owner-managed private corporations highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Caseware required
  • Familiarity with various other accounting programs considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.) required.
  • Working knowledge of ASPE standards required.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS standards strongly preferred.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Dedication to teamwork, leadership, and integrity within a professional environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with previous experience in a customer service-related position; strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
